Strand is made of durable yet thin steel designed to move effortlessly with you.
We turned to a steel workshop outside of Milan in Italy that combines state-of-the-art technology with highly skilled craftsmen. A custom tooling was developed to shape the steel for Strand’s signature ellipse shaped back. The seamless edges give the table its refined look and feel.

State-of-the-art laser welding technologies give Strand its smooth, seamless edges and minimalist profile.
Due to the ellipse-shaped back, the center point is the thickest point on the table and creates enough support to keep the table top floating. This allowed us to get rid of the center beam that thin side tables typically have, which enables you to pull Strand’s table top over your sofa or bed.

A Milan-based industrial designer, Robin Rizzini is dedicated to developing seamless residential and office furniture that strikes the right balance between decorative and technical elements. Rizzini has won numerous awards, including the Compasso d’Oro, Neocon Gold Award and German Design Award.
What’s unique about the Strand table?
The innovative ellipse-shaped back that lets the tabletop float in the air. The solution to a sturdy, yet extremely thin tabletop really came through the geometry. Although it looks simple, you’d be surprised how difficult it was to find a steel workshop that can do this well.
How did you envision the table being used?
Really as an extension to the sofa. I wanted to design a table top you could easily slide over the sofa to rest your laptop, access a drink or snack, or even pull over the bed for Sunday breakfast.
Tell us about the challenge of working with steel.
It’s a hard material. The challenge is to use steel in such ways that still feel warm and inviting. Since steel is so incredibly strong, we were able to make the profile of the Strand table extremely thin.
